Show Report: INsite Night featuring Glitch Mob at Aces Lounge

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Ace’s Lounge was host to Glitch Mob, Atran, G King, and Pharo on Thursday, bringing out an eclectic crowd of revelers. The event was a big hit: the venue was packed, people were having a great time, drinks were flowing, and the music was hard-hitting.

Crowd at Aces for INsite Night featuring Glitch Mob

The DJs spun some heavy dark breakbeat/dubstep stuff and pushed the impressive sound system to its limits. A few times, the sound clipped and the massive subwoofers gave out. Kudos to everyone (staff, DJs, and attendees) for being patient and working through them quickly. The small technical issues aside, this really was a great show.

Yeah, it was loud

In terms of sound and feel, this event rivaled Future Fest. The sound was powerful and visceral yet clear, and there was a large mix of people ages 18 and up, from ravers to preps. Everyone seemed to get along and enjoy the show, despite Aces being absolutely packed.

Is that Sean from INsite back there?

Many thanks to Sean from INsite Magazine for the invite; that’s him above giving his ubiquitous thumbs-up. Be on the lookout for some shots from Greg Cooper floating around the intertubes.

Plenty of interesting pictures for your viewing pleasure below the break.

INsite Night at The Belmont

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

The Belmont Crowd
On Saturday night, The Belmont hosted the latest INsite night featuring music from Kalu James, Love at War and The Will Evans Project. The night was a benefit for Grounded in Music, a nonprofit organization that brings music lessons to disadvantaged children. Additionally, the night was a CD release party for The Will Evans Project, celebrating the release of Plantenga.

Love at War

Love at War evokes the look and feeling of a boy band that can actually play their instruments. Their songs were innocuous and firmly aimed at the female demographic. The polished looks and pop sound might turn off some, but the crowd at The Belmont ate it up.

The Will Evans Project

The Will Evans Project moved the night from pop into funky rock territory, starting the set with a fuzz bass riff that wouldn’t quit. Quick use of effects, tight rhythm, and funk/blues undertones were put to good use.

A gallery of the better pictures is below. I got there after Kalu James had finished, so no pictures of him unfortunately.
