Irish singer/songwriter Simon Fagan is much more than the standard “one guy and his guitar” we’ve all become accustomed to. The variations in songs and instrumentation are a testament to his vast experience (he’s been in bands since the age of 13). On top of that, his voice has this whole Bob Dylan aspect.

Members/Instruments:
I tour with a 5 piece band (drums, bass, piano, electric & acoustic guitar) but some time include a 3 piece brass section.

Year Formed: I’ve been in bands since I was 13 but a couple of years ago I decided to go solo and start writing music closer to me.

1. Past: What is your musical background? What has led you to this point?
Started singing in church choirs at the age of five and joined the local brass band at the age of 8 playing trumpet, I was sent to school on musical scholarships and went on to study trumpet and composition in both the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. After college I auditioned Irish Army brass band but knew I’d end up spending most of my afternoons in the pub!

2. Present: Where are you at now in your career? What are you currently working on?
I’ve been busy touring throughout Ireland and the UK including a lot of regional and national radio interviews. I’ve just released my second EP for free through my website and an about to head off on a 9 date tour in Egypt. An odd one I know but should be great fun and we plan to document it. When I get home I plan to return to the studio to start work on my album.

3. Future: What’s coming up for you? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully once the album comes out next year I’ll be able to get on the road and start touring across Europe and eventually America. I’ve played some gigs in LA before and the atmosphere is amazing there so would love to move over and spend a year or two on the road.
