1.Past: What is your musical background? What has led you to this point?
The members of Sound Liberation are all Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music (MSM) trained musicians. In fact David Gotay and I (G. Pritsker) met at MSM and decided to start a project that combines our love for classical music and hip-hop. Most of the music that I write uses elements from various musical cultures and in Sound Liberation I compose this type of music for a specific ensemble made up of musicians who are comfortable within the various styles/genres.

2.Present: Where are you at now in your career? What are you currently working on?
As a composer I am writing many large scale works for various ensembles (orchestral and chamber). For example: Tangent to Curves for chamber orchestra to be premiered at the Bremen Muiskfest ’09. For Sound Liberation I have just written a one and half hour Suite called Varieties of religious Experiences Suite (VRE Suite). We are premiering the full piece at the Flea Theater in New York on May 29th. We want to record the full suite and shop that to record labels. The piece is for 2 guitars, cello, bass and drums. its an instrumental suite with lots of improvisation, so we are looking for a jazz/improv-like label.

We have also just finished producing a DVD of my hip-hop opera (that we have performed around the world in past years). We are now shopping the DVD to record labels for release as well.

3.Future: What’s coming up for you? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
As a band I would like Sound Liberation to record more albums, get radio play and tour. We are trying to get more exposure through internet radio. In september ’09 a song from our new album ‘Open up Your Ears and Get some’ will be feature in a new motion picture called ‘The Wedding Brothers’. The song is called ‘No Truth’. We hope this gains us some national exposure, so look out for it.
