5turns25 Releases New “Folktronic” Tracks

5turns25Let me warn you: this music will probably not appeal to many of you. If you are the adventurous type, then check out 5turns25.  They are a folk-electronic duo from Connecticut that uses live-looping in conjunction with a plethora of instruments. The end product is an ambient, amorphous, and haunting soundscape.

Late last month, 5turns25 (which takes its name from the 25th anniversary of the Landsat 5 satellite launch) released four new short albums. Listen to most, if not all, of the tracks here.

Reviewing this type of music is almost impossible for me. I can’t say I would buy an album of ambient music, even when it is conceived and executed so delicately. However, I have the utmost respect for people who push the envelope and explore genres well outside of the mainstream. The imagination and artistry at work is apparent and the best thing I can offer is a link to the music to let you listen and form your own opinion.
